The Coach Lesley Team

Lesley Mettler, Founder, Head Coach

Coach Lesley has over 20 years of experience as a running, triathlon and fitness coach. She has coached all levels of athletes from beginners to elites.

Lesley grew up in Seattle, where from the young age of 10 she was winning field days at school and gathering medals to bring home. It was during her high school years, while she was competing in track and cross country, that she was inspired by her high school physiology teacher to learn more about anatomy, physiology, and physical performance.

Coach Lesley graduated Summa Cum Laude from Oregon State University with a B.S. in Exercise and Sports Science, with a pre-medical emphasis and a Minor in Nutrition. She completed additional course work in pre/post natal fitness and eating disorder management.
Her sports medicine internship focused on performance stress tests, evaluating and treating sports-related injuries, and assisting ACL reconstruction and joint replacement patients.

Over the years, Lesley has been very active in the sports community, participating in exercise physiology testing, fitness equipment development, and USOC drug testing. Most recently she attend the USAT International Coaching Symposium.

Lesley is a USATF Division I and II Track and Field Coach, USA Triathlon Certified Coach, a USA Cycling Level I Coach, and an AFAA Certified Personal Trainer.

Athletic Achievements

Lesley has been an athlete all her life. She has competed in over 15 marathons across the U.S. with a PR of 03:02:48. She is also an avid short-distance runner, competing in numerous Northwest races winning races or consistently placing top in her age group. She was a member of the Ragnar Relay winning teams in 2008 and 2009. As a cyclist, she has completed numerous long-distance rides including the Big Ride Across America and the Big Ride Pacific Coast.

In 2006 Lesley made her foray into the sport of Ironman triathlon and completed her first race, Ironman Canada, where she qualified for the Ironman World Championships. She completed her second Ironman (a mere seven weeks later) in Kona, Hawaii.

After 2006 Lesley competed in three more Ironman events, including qualifying (10:55:03) for Kona again in 2008. You know she's at an event when you see the "Go Mighty Mouse" signs. These signs, famous in the triathlon community, are always put out on the course by her father (and biggest fan), Allen.

CL Team Coaches

Kelly Johnson

Kelly has been a fish (swimmer) all her life. It all began with her parents throwing her into the pool when she was a mere eight months old. Off she went! At 12 she began her competitive open-water swimming career with the Junior Lifeguard Program. Next was a long and illustrious competitive pool career. Kelly was also born to be a coach. For many years she coached children (of all ages) to swim, and now she teaches fifth grade. As you can imagine, she is a very patient and persistent human being. Since joining the Coach Lesley Team, she has worked with almost all our athletes of all levels (swimmers and non-swimmers alike) to improve their stroke efficiency in the water. Whether someone is learning to swim or training for Ironman, Kelly's keen eye and in-depth knowledge of the swim stroke takes you to the next level. We are very excited to have her on the CL Team.

CL Team Operations

Genevieve (Gen) Robison, Administrative Assistant

Gen has been an organizational guru all her life. Whether it's in her genes, or perhaps comes from other early influences, she will not say. One thing for sure, we are very happy to have her "keep it all together" for us on a daily basis. Gen grew up in the United Kingdom, graduating from the University of the West of England with a BSc Degree (with Honors) in Geography and Environmental Management. Upon graduation, she moved to Hilo, HI to run the Educational Outreach Program at the Pacific Tsunami Museum. Recently Gen moved to Seattle for family reasons, and comes to the Coach Lesley Team with a plethora of administration, event management, and program coordination experience. We are very fortunate to have her on the CL Team.
