Why hire a coach?
With over 20 years' experience as a coach, I’ve heard many people say that they've thought about hiring a coach for a long time but have hesitated for many reasons. Some say they felt they could figure out their training plan on their own or just use a book or online plan. Or they thought that a coach would rigidly dictate a schedule and they worried about giving up control. I firmly believe a good coach can provide multiple benefits on many levels.
Coaching is both an art and a science. To be effective, coaching must address the needs of the whole person to help you train smarter – not just harder. Over the years, I’ve seen people of all ages and experience levels achieve amazing things with coaching, and it’s been a privilege joining them on their journey. - INDIVIDUALIZED PLAN: A coach will provide a plan tailored just for you and will take into account what works for you and any constraints you may have. If real life intrudes (as it always does!), a coach can help you adjust your training plan as needed. It’s a collaborative effort which is dependent on open communication. A good coach will listen to you and find out what will work for you.
- COMPLETE CARE: A certified, experienced coach can provide guidance on injury concerns, nutrition, and supplementary training like strength training and cross training. If you need additional resources, a coach can help you find other providers to help.
- DETAILED AND REALISTIC PLAN: A good coach will help you understand basic training principles and will ask you to work towards challenging yet realistic goals. And you’ll know what you need to do each day to reach your goals even when you don’t have time to plan.
- MOTIVATION AND ACCOUNTABILITY: A coach will help you stay motivated, provide accountability, and be your biggest cheerleader! A coach will help you push beyond your comfort zone yet will advise you when you are overreaching and may need to back off. A coach should be able to make even hard training challenging yet doable and fun.
